Apparently Ween is calling it quits after 25 years. Which is probably fine because have you ever heard someone say, “Ween is my favorite band of all time!” Nah, me neither. But we all still like them just enough and I’ll personally never forget the first time I heard and fell in love with this song. It will always be such a perfect little pop tune. And you know what, White Pepper was pretty freaking good.

Farewell, Gene & Dean. It’s been sweet.

For whatever reason, at some point in the last year or so Alex Ebert and gang have left a bad taste in my mouth. I don’t know why or when it happened (perhaps it was “Home” being pushed on us like our country was a Communist dictatorship and that song was our leader?)
Anyway, first time I heard this song I found myself trying to repel it but it plays constantly on the radio (won’t we ever learn?) and so far, I just can’t help really liking it.

Reminds me of the time last fall, when I saw The Walkmen and Fleet Foxes in one beautiful show. Oh, I also commonly refer to that as the “best night of my life.”

(In no particular order)

8. The Tallest Man on Earth
9. Of Monsters and Men
10. Alabama Shakes*
14. Miike Snow

Don’t worry if you think I’m an ass for saying things like this (because I feel like an ass for saying things like this) but since I fancy myself a screenwriter I really love songs that drip with the perfect amount of melancholy so that they inspire movie scenes flashing through my head as I listen. This song does that for me.

Every once in awhile a track is released in which no matter when you post it, you are wrong. You post it right away, and you’ve apparently just posted it for traffic and you haven’t even listened to it enough. If you post it the next morning, you are just one cattle amongst million of others. If you post it a week later, you are so a week late, fool. Post it a few months later, you’re not a music blogger you’re basically a small-town kindergarten teacher with a penchant for Jodi Picoult.

This is one of those tracks. I wasn’t going to post it at all but man I like it so much.

I recently bought Rosetta Stone for French because I took Latin in high school and I resent not being able to speak any other language. I can’t help but feel like I sound like this. Or I will sound like this very soon. I mean probably. Possibly. Maybe.

I have a creepy affinity for Robin Pecknold, but my favorite Fleet Foxe has always been Josh Tillman. When he left the band to pursue his solo work, it was a bittersweet moment, but the tunes he has been releasing have helped transition that feeling to all sweet. Plus, it’s kind of nice that I can now love him and Robin equally and not feel like an intra-band whore.

His album Fear Fun is out May 1 on Sub Pop.
